My ancestors came from both Sweden and Bohemia, settling in Iowa. Through this blog I hope to share information with my own relatives about my Swedish ancestors. Please comment or share any interesting and relevant information you have on this family line.

A Question About Rask Siblings

Karl Olof Rask aka Charley Rask

I received a question about the Rask siblings and whether any of them came to the United States. As of this writing, I only know of the youngest, Karl Olof Rask, born on April 24, 1864 in Bollnas in Gavleborg County.

Karl immigrated to the United States in 1884, and he is found in the 1885 Iowa State Census living with Olof Olofson, Brita Rask Olofson, and their children. On March 9, 1890, Karl marries Annie B. Olofson (no relation to us) in Boone County. Annie was born to unwed mother Elizabeth Peterson (Brita Persdotter), who arrived in the United States in 1868, when Annie was just one year old.
Karl and Annie had 8 children:

·         Severt Rask (born 1892 in Iowa)
·         Isabel Rask (born 1894 in Iowa)
·         Floyd Rask (born 1897 in Iowa)
·         William Rask (born 1899 in South Dakota)
·         Lars Rask (born 1900 in South Dakota)
·         Florence Rask (born 1901 in South Dakota)
·         Carl Rask (born 1904 in South Dakota)
·         Edna Rask (born 1907 in South Dakota)

I show this family in the censuses in South Dakota from 1900 until 1915 when they move to Chaseley, Wells County, North Dakota. Karl died in July 1930 and is buried in Chaseley Cemetery in Wells County, North Dakota. Annie died in March 1952 and is buried next to her husband.
